Home Care Guide Pruning

Pruning

Pruning is occasionally desirable or necessary to remove dead or diseased branches, improve tree structure, enhance vigour, or maintain safety. Pruning mature trees can be awkward and disastrous if not done correctly. 'Tree Men' who have no professional qualifications or experience can destroy your tree in a few minutes, and rarely carry insurance if something goes wrong, such as dropping limbs through your roof. Always hire a professional who carries adequate insurance, is qualified and comes highly recommended.

A directory of qualified arborist can be viewed at www.trees.org.uk (See Professional Services and Advice). It is always a good idea to request and check references before contracting any tree work, as we have the misfortune to receive phone calls from too many people looking for replacement trees after a 'Tree Man' has disappeared. A qualified arborist or tree surgeon will be able to determine what type of pruning is necessary to maintain or improve the health, appearance and safety of your trees.
