Majestic Trees is always looking for new members to join our team as we continue to grow. The need may not be immediate, but if you are driven, ambitious, hardworking, and with a passion for horticulture, are honest with ethics beyond reproach, then we are looking for you.

Skilled Nurseryperson - We are looking to hire additional 2-3 team members immediately due to our nursery expansion, preferably with specimen tree production experience, with a “can do” nothing is impossible attitude whatever the challenge and in any weather. Good pruning skills, container production experience, irrigation knowledge but most importantly a keen understanding of how things grow. The ability to multi-task, work hard and to deadlines efficiently in a team is essential. Machinery experience and handling large specimen trees is preferable but not necessary. An HND or equivalent would be ideal, but if you can grow and believe you have what it takes we would like to talk to you. Excellent pest and disease knowledge with a PA1 & PA6 useful.

AfterCare/Tree Planting – We have an opening for an experienced horticulturist to join our team who has very good P&D knowledge, and preferably a PA1 & 6 (PA3 beneficial). This role has a lot of variety, as you will work in our planting team during much of the year, but during the late spring, summer and autumn will be more involved in AfterCare, including assisting the nursery manager with P&D control on the nursery. Great customer service skills essential, willingness to travel, solid IT and ability to drive machinery beneficial.

Sales Person/Horticultural Advisor – We have a very fine sales and advice team, but from time to time we will have an outstanding opportunity for another person to join us as we continue to grow. If you like to work hard in a team of dedicated, passionate horticulturists who are the best in the industry, with solid horticultural knowledge, preferably with good tree know how, give us a call. Great customer skills, solid IT skills and natural sales ability essential. Five day work week scheduled over a 6 day week, Monday through Saturday, with industry leading pay.

Steve McCurdy - Managing Director

Steve received his initial commercial horticultural education and training at Thomas Rochfords & Sons and Oaklands College of Agriculture and Horticulture in Hertfordshire. In 1979 he was selected for a one-year work experience in the US, and after his return worked in horticultural sales before he immigrated to the US to marry Janet. Together, they went on to build the largest independent interior landscape company in Southern California, which won 93 national and stateside awards. He served on the boards of both national and state trade organisations including 5 years as chair of the main industry convention. He was honoured to be the 2002 interiorscape inductee into the Interiorscape Hall of Fame. They returned to the UK in 2000 and sold their US company in 2001 to focus all of their energies on Majestic Trees, which has culminated in the containerised tree nursery. With over 32 years of horticultural experience, Steve travels extensively searching for the finest specimen trees throughout the year.

Janet McCurdy - Company Secretary

Janet acts as the Company Secretary and handles tax and corporate issues for the company. She has an MA, a strong administrative background and has been involved in the family business both here and in the U.S. She works closely with the office and accounting staff, supporting their efforts with her knowledge and experience.

Helen Morgan - Finance and Human Resources Manager

Helen joined Majestic Trees in 2008 and has wide experience in the corporate world in human relations, insurance matters, recruitment, etc. She has an HND in Business and Finance, is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and is a part qualified accountant. She handles both accounts receivable, payable and payroll in addition to HR, insurance matters, pensions, etc. and works closely with the management team to ensure the company always runs smoothly when it comes to all our financial affairs. She serves on the company’s Senior Management Committee, where her insights and wisdom are especially invaluable.

Christina Jones – Marketing and Business Development Manager

Christina Jones

Christina joined Majestic Trees in 2003 as the company’s first sales team recruit, bringing with her several years’ experience in the mature nursery stock sector and a great belief in the future of Majestic Trees. Steve quickly saw her many talents, so she was soon given more responsibility and became the company’s first Sales and Marketing Manager. Over the years she has contributed to the establishment of many of the systems and strategies that have come to set Majestic Trees apart in the industry, including our stock control system, evolving brand identity and award-winning website. She holds a Master’s degree in Tropical/Sub-Tropical Horticulture and Crop Science, and serves on the company’s Senior Management Committee.

Jane Poyner – Customer Service & Administration

Jane joined our team in 2006 and is the first person you will normally meet whether you visit the nursery or call. She also works behind the scenes and manages our general enquiries by e-mail and other systems and structures invaluable to the smooth operation of the company. She has a strong administrative background and brings with her over 20 years of experience as a PA and Project Administrator for a large organization, and nothing is too much trouble.

Katrina Rhodes – Scheduling/Administrator


Katrina joined us from Xerox in 2016 where she had worked for 17 years in a fast-paced customer care oriented role. We had been trying to persuade her to join us for 16 years as she also happens to be a superb gardener, a fact known by those of us who live locally and have witnessed her past successes with her vegetables at the annual village show. We finally persuaded her to bring her talents to Majestic Trees, where she now organises all our scheduling, liaises with customers on a daily basis and provides versatile practical support to a wide range of projects as the need arises. Totally dedicated to customer service with a nothing is too much trouble attitude, she is very efficient, logical, great at problem solving and always thinking outside the box.

Andy Porter - Planting Supervisor

Andy has worked since the early days of Majestic Trees having been with us for over 11 years. He started on the tree planting team but quickly demonstrated his leadership abilities and his gift to think outside the box, which has resulted in him becoming the senior planter and running one of the tree planting teams. He previously worked in groundcare and landscape maintenance and holds all the relevant tickets for the heavy equipment we operate. Andy is multi-skilled, a capable driver of a 7.5 ton lorry, and has completed his City & Guilds NVQ2 in Horticulture during his time at Majestic. He has excellent customer service skills and is always hard-working, punctual and conscientious.

Winston Woodward – Planting Supervisor/HGV2

Winston joined Majestic Trees in early 2006 and has been in the industry for over 20 years. He has an ND in Horticulture (Distinction) and worked for six years as part of the team building the Eden Project and has worked overseas on other projects. Winston is a qualified Pesticide applicator, is a licensed machine operator driving most of our fleet of heavy machinery as well as a HGV2 driver. Winston provides consistent and knowledgeable horticultural care, and when not working loves to do triathlons . He is passionate about his plants and it shows in the detail and thoroughness of his work, and customer survey’s demonstrate this. He has proven to be an invaluable team member leading a crew on projects across the UK with the utmost professionalism.

Carl Batchelor - HGV1 & Planting Supervisor

Carl has worked in the horticultural industry for over 20 years, having joined Majestic Trees in early 2004 where he has progressed from crew member to a leadership role. Carl has a practical “can-do” approach with a commitment to excellent customer service that makes him an invaluable team leader. He is fully competent in all plant and machinery we own, including excavators, telehandlers, skidsteers etc., and holds all relevant tickets as does all of his crew that operate them. Carl also holds both a HGV1 and 2 rigid and articulated truck licenses, and is a fully qualified First Aider. As if that weren’t enough, during his time at Majestic, Carl has also undertaken and completed his City & Guilds NVQ2 in Horticulture.

Tom Dulieu - HGV1/Machine Operator

Tom grew up on a farm which resulted in him learning to drive machinery at an early age. With about 20 years experience, there is little he cannot drive or does not hold a license for, whether it be telescopic handlers, tractors, skidsteers, excavators, hiab crane and tracked dumpers, etc. and of course a HGV1 truck license. Tom joined Majestic in 2006 where he has become an important part of the tree planting team and is very detailed and extremely practical. He is especially adept at long distance or trunking work and has been known to turn around up to 3 artic trailer loads of trees in one day when we are running in numerous trees for the show gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show!.

Iain Heaslip – Planting Team/HGV1

Iain joined our team in 2009 and has worked in the nursery business for over 20 years, primarily at a bonsai nursery. Now instead of bonsai trees, he thinks nothing of moving and planting trees in 80 to 5,000 litre pots. Over the years he has picked most of his horticultural knowledge on the job, though he has completed his City & Guilds, NVQ2 in Horticulture. It doesn’t matter where you live, Iain is happy to drive to you. He is a natural at delivering and planting trees, usually as part of a team, and holds a license for various machinery and of course a HGV1 truck license.

Bruno Lechevalier – Nurseryman/Tree Planting Team/HGV2

Bruno originally asked if he could come and work at Majestic Trees for a 12 months period in 2012 to observe our growing practices and hopefully learn a few things, but has enjoyed himself so much he has asked to stay! After completing his horticultural studies, he worked for a number of years as a nurseryman on a tree nursery in France that is one of our tree suppliers. Bruno has a great attitude, works very hard and is a stickler for detail. He very ably operates various machinery, doesn’t believe in the 35 hour week, and is one of the nicest people you could want to meet, always happy! His passion for trees in infectious as is his love for life, always enthusiastic and willing to pitch in and help anyone, whatever it is!

Tom Coltman-West -Tree Planting Team


Tom Coltman-West

Tom joined us in 2015, but hit the ground running. He had previously studied horticulture at Capel Manor College where he completed his NPTC Level 2 with Distinction and Extended Level 3 Diploma, before working in landscaping and landscape maintenance as a Horticulturist. He is hard working and happy, always willing to doing whatever the customer wants.

Mark Ambler – Planter


Mark Ambler

Mark joined our planting team in early 2016 after working for various companies on a self-employed basis in the gardening and garden construction trade for many years. He loves to start work early and will do whatever he is asked to do, rain or shine. He loves being outside in his garden and lists game shooting, travelling and spending time with his dogs. He drives the 7 ½ ton LGV’s and will shortly progress to our larger trucks.

Tommy Forrester – Planter


Tommy Forrester

Tommy has watched Majestic Trees grow over the years as he lived down the road since he was born.  He originally opted for a career in catering as a professionally trained chef, but after 8 years of unsociable hours he opted for a career change to reflect his love of the outdoors.  He has fitted in very quickly as a member of the planting crew and is known for his hard work, great attitude and is pursuing his RHS2 qualification at Capel Manor whilst completing the Majestic Trees 3 year Apprenticeship.  Among his hobbies, he enjoys traditional bow building and travelling.

Fern Snowling – Logistics Manager


Fern Snowling

Fern joined Majestic Trees in 2006 and quickly proved herself as both driven, hardworking, and very able at managing people. Over the next 9 years she moved up to become the Logistics Manager before deciding in 2013 to go traveling around the world which consumed most of her next 3 years. She was sorely missed, and thankfully she came back and quickly picked up where she left off, helping run the day to day operations of Majestic Trees. She manages all the planting team and yard, besides being a very talented machine operator holding all relevant licenses for any size telescopic fork lift, skidsteers, hiabs, excavator, etc and HGV truck licenses. Fern is very hands on person who is extremely logical, delights in team efficiency and effectiveness, making it happen whatever the challenge. She is one of those critical leaders who radiates and stimulates the teams high morale. She also serves on the company’s Senior Management Committee, where her insights and experience are especially invaluable.

Nursery

Carlos Guinand – Nursery Manager

Carlos joined Majestic Trees in 2007 after immigrating from Venezuela and has over 20 years of experience growing vegetables, ornamental foliage, forestry as well as trees. Prior to that he studied for a MSc in Agronomy/Crop Science at the School of Agronomy, Central University of Venezuela, and his thesis was given an award for being the best at graduation. Carlos loves life and is passionate about trees and growing the highest quality stock. He is one of the key members of staff who really 'makes it happen', works very hard and is very dedicated to the details that make the difference. whether it be the organisation and the setting out of new stock that is grown-on during the growing season, potting, pruning, spraying, etc., whatever the weather! He is an absolute perfectionist, takes great pride in a job well done and instils these principles in his team of horticulturists. He holds a PA1&6 license, as well as various heavy equipment licenses. Carlos serves on the company’s Senior Management Committee, where his insights and experience are especially invaluable.

Maria Lumb – Pruning & Stock Control Manager

Maria joined us in 2011 after moving here from her native Sweden where she worked at the Bergius Botanical Garden. She spent her time there caring for and pruning the large collection of specimen ornamental and fruit trees in this prestigious botanical garden, including the vast collection of Mediterranean plants in the Edvard Anderson Conservatory. After leaving school she studied at university for 5 years to be a chemist, but her love of gardening soon took her back to school to study horticulture for 2 years. She graduated with a Diploma in advanced pruning from the Swedish Horticultural Society, and recently completed her RHS Masters in Horticulture with Distinction. Besides spending many months each year pruning and growing our trees, she manages the pruning team and our tree inventory computer system to ensure we always have accurate and reliable information. She is a dedicated and passionate horticulturist who is committed to excellence, nothing is too much trouble, and she thrives on a challenge however great or small. She serves on the company’s Senior Management Committee, where her insights and experience are especially invaluable.

Matt Stevens - Facilities Maintenance

Matt is the person who maintains the irrigation system, spearheads development of new or refurbished areas, repairs tyres, tools, changes and repairs infrastructure, equipment or golf buggy, etc. He has worked with his hands for over 20 years, and studied and received a City and Guilds distinction in Bricklaying and Construction which he applied in building and facilities maintenance, as well as tree surgery before joining us in 2007. He takes great pride in doing the job right, and is a very practical person with a lot of common sense. He is a valued member of the team, and without him Majestic would struggle to look as good as it does.

Nick Wild - Yard Supervisor


Nick Wild

Although Nick enjoyed the good life early in his career, practicalities eventually kept him in an office for many years. At least during working hours, that is; evenings and weekends were still fair game for tinkering with engines and working his land. In 2014 Nick finally made the decision to leave his desk job for a life more Majestic and we really couldn’t have hoped for a better match. Nick’s natural mechanical and horticultural ability, combined with his attention to detail and friendly, positive outlook, make him the ideal character for Yard Supervisor. Nick oversees the loading and offloading of delivery vehicles as well as working with the office to ensure accuracy, safety and efficiency of the loading and transport process.

Owen Lewis – Nurseryman


Owen Lewis

Owen originally thought he wanted to be a forester so he studied for his BSc (Hons) in Forestry at Bangor University and graduated with a 2.1 in 2013. He then had the opportunity to work and train under Adam Frost, 7 times Chelsea Gold Medal winner as part of the HomeBase Garden Academy, which included helping him build his 2015 Chelsea Gold Medal Show Garden. He is passionate about trees and loves nothing more in life than growing, and is always willing to do whatever it takes with a great attitude.

Bruce Houghton – Nurseryman


Bruce Houghton

Bruce has been a nurseryman for over 30 years. He started his career growing vegetables before spending 15 years at Chessum Plants/Langard. He then spent a number of years growing bedding plants before joining us in 2015. Bruce works as a member of the production team, and has a do anything, whatever it takes drive to ensure Majestic Trees continued success. He has a PA1, 2 & 10 spraying license.

Sue first joined Majestic Trees as a horticulturist working on the nursery in 2006, prior to taking a year out in 2009 to live in the States where her husband was working. On her return we were able to persuade her to join our horticultural advice team, were she did a brilliant job for over 6 years. She studied at both Capel Manor and Writtle Colleges achieving the RHS General, the Certificate of Higher Education in Horticulture and Design and a Diploma in Garden Design. On leaving college she initially set up her own garden design, landscape construction and garden maintenance business, working mainly on projects in and around Hertfordshire, but now she has gone full circle and back to the nursery were she regularly will be seen either running a team potting, or working alongside Maria assisting her with the stock control and labelling of the trees after they are potted.

Paul Wren – General Nursery Support


Paul joined us 2017 on his return from 14 years in Australia. Surprisingly he doesn’t feel the cold, but quickly proved how adaptable and hardworking he is. With many years’ experience with heavy machinery and their electrical maintenance, his skills will come in very useful with our varied and large plant and equipment. He loves the outdoor life, and is happiest when canoeing, cycling or gardening.

Richard Cope – Apprentice


Richard Cope

Richard first came to work as temporary help over two years in our busy spring seasons, whilst he pursued what he thought was his true career ambition of joining the police force. After working here for the second time he returned to us with different career aspirations and we couldn’t have been more delighted to offer him an apprenticeship to pursue a career in horticulture. He too is studying at Capel Manor College for his RHS Certificates in Horticulture and already has a number of heavy machinery tickets. He is hard working, a great time keeper and always has a great attitude.

Helen Thomas

We first had the opportunity to work with Helen after she was the worthy winner to design our show and demonstration gardens, in a competition run by Capel Manor College of Garden Design. In 2013 we persuaded her to come and join us to help us handle the day to day enquires of both walk in and telephone enquiries. Helen received her BA(Hons) in Fashion Design and thereafter spent 12 years at one of the major fashion houses as a senior designer before taking a career break. Having always been an avid gardener, Helen decided to retrain as a garden designer to combine her great design and drawing skills with her love of plants. She studied garden design at Capel Manor College for her NOCN Cert. Garden Design where she won an award as Student of the Year. She has excellent communication skills, and a mature, tactful and caring disposition in dealing with any size project.

Andrew Austin - Sales Team Leader

Andrew is one of our most experienced advisors, and as such works closely with our Sales Manager, Sarah, in the management of the sales office. He leads both by guidance and example, putting his considerable product knowledge and outstanding customer service skills to excellent use. Andrew has over 25 years experience in horticulture on large estates, tree nurseries, arboretums and in garden centre management. He initially joined us as a horticulturist in early 2007 working on the nursery as a grower before transferring to the sales department. He has an Ordinary National Diploma in Amenity Horticulture from Askam Byran College of Agriculture and Horticulture. Andrew is renowned for his patience and reliability, out of which has grown an ever-expanding, loyal following of repeat customers.

Andy Miles – Commercial Manager/Horticultural Advisor

Andy Miles is pretty much the most amiable and approachable sales professional we have ever had the privilege of working alongside. His fifteen-plus years’ experience in horticulture, primarily in garden centre management, comes through in his willingness to instantly drop whatever he is doing when a customer require assistance. He has an Ordinary National Diploma, a Higher National Diploma from Oakland’s College of Agriculture and Horticulture in Hertfordshire, and a tree knowledge that is second to none. Andy can tell you almost anything about a tree – whether it be preferred soil type, height in ten years, or susceptibility to disease – no Google required! Additionally, Andy has an innate sense of value and the ability to look at anything and see that there is something wrong with the price, has a great commercial ability to look at anything whether it be the scheduling or a quote done and quickly see what is missing.

Louisa Marriott – Horticultural Advisor

Louisa originally joined us on a short-term maternity cover contract, but she was so good we persuaded her to stay.  Three years later she is still providing customers with advice and is very good at offering practical and logical solutions to their queries.  When she was a bit younger, she changed careers and went back to school at the Berkshire College of Agriculture where she graduated with a National Certificate of Horticulture. Since then she has worked in a number of horticultural roles, including managing the sales at one of our competitors, running her own business and being a horticultural advisor to a council planning department.  Louisa enjoys gardening, walking and live music. 

Alan Williams – Assistant Horticultural Advisor


Alan Williams

Alan started his working life in horticulture, initially as a green keeper rising during his 15 years to a nursery manager of hardy plants.  He then spent a number of years outside horticulture in sales, before seizing on the opportunity to join our team in early 2017, to combine his horticultural and excellent customer service skills.  Alan is very approachable and friendly, works hard and is always calm under pressure.  He is a great support to the horticultural advisory team.

Jane Anthony – Assistant Horticultural Advisor

Jane also joined us in 2017 as maternity coverWe had known her for some years as a garden designer we sold trees to, so when she expressed an interest we seized the opportunity. She received a Distinction in ‘Professional Planning and Planting’ when she studied garden design, though she had previously been in sales before she had her children. She is always happy and helpful, positive and fun to be around and is a great addition to our team.

Sarah Shynn - Sales Manager (On Maternity Leave)

Our Sales Manager, Sarah, is the longest standing and most experienced member of our sales team, valued highly both for her design expertise and pragmatic business sense. In addition to her responsibilities as a senior manager, Sarah handles those enquiries which require a high level of design advice and project management. She draws from over 25 years of garden design, landscape contracting, landscape sales experience and as a grower in a nursery, as well as her formal training, which includes an OND and HND in Commercial Horticulture from Writtle College of Agriculture and Horticulture, and a distinction in Garden Design from Capel Manor, one of the nation's leading garden design schools. Sarah joined Majestic Trees in 2004 and specialises in designing planting schemes and treescapes to both beautify and transform landscapes all over Britain. She was honoured by her industry peers in 2011 when she was awarded ‘Sales Professional of the Year’ at the UK Grower Awards. She serves on the company’s Senior Management Committee, where her insights and wisdom are especially invaluable.
