Magnolia grand. 'Gallissonnière'
- Common Name: Bull bay magnolia
- Variety Code: 10291
A classic ornamental evergreen, valued primarily for its large glossy green leaves which have contrasting russet undersides, and also its sophisticated waxy, cream, cup shaped flowers which appear in late summer (with careful timing of pruning). Magnolia grandiflora is fairly slow growing, and lends itself well to clipping and training. The tree is equally effective when allowed to develop a natural unchecked crown, clipped as a formal specimen, or trained as a large wall shrub. ADVISORY: Although considered evergreen, it is not uncommon for 'Galissonniere' to drop a considerable number of leaves after periods of severe cold.
