This very large and extremely vigourous species is a hybrid between Chamaecyparis nootkatensis (Nootka cypress) and Cupressus macrocarpa (Monterey cypress). It is valued for its fast growth habit, sturdy consitution, and dense, evergreen foliage which provides an effective screen. At its best when used in open spaces for broadscale coverage or as a windbreak, where it can grow without restriction, but can also be used effectively as hedging and screening in smaller spaces, provided strict discipline is observed in maintenance. Usually requires clipping 2-3 times per growing season to keep in check. Skin irritant. Hardy.
