The Japanese name means 'celestial river', which aptly describes this rigidly narrow upright tree. When covered with clusters of pale pink, fragrant flowers in spring the analogy becomes very plausible. Leaves unfold bronze, turning green in summer and red to orange in autumn. A very appropriate tree for restricted spaces. Hardy.
