Prunus padus, also known as bird cherry, is a resilient and adaptable plant that can thrive in most soil types except for very wet ones. It produces clusters of white flowers with a sweet almond fragrance in spring, which are followed by small, glossy black fruits that attract many birds and other wildlife, even though they are too bitter for human consumption. Prunus padus has deciduous, oval-shaped green leaves that turn bronze and yellow in autumn before shedding.
